Barbara Bolt’s focus in her art practice is the medium of painting, and more especially, ‘the transformative potential of her medium”.
Bolt’s practice involves the floating of layers of diluted paint over stretched and primed canvas allowing the image or images to emerge, as if by chance, through the literal movement of the stretched canvas by her; yet ostensibly controlled by an exacting moment of judgment.
Recent works have been influenced by Bolt’s immersion in the urban landscape of Melbourne, its streetscapes awash or diluted by colour and light.
