Exhibitions - Andrew Mezei

Tyranny, Pillars and the gaze of conrete

Press Release

Catherine Asquith Gallery is delighted to announce that Melbourne-based artist, Andrew Mezei will be exhibiting his latest body of work “Tyranny, pillars and the gaze of concrete” from the 6th to the 25th April, in what will no doubt be a pivotal exhibition. The exhibition will officially open on Thursday 8th April (6 to 8pm) and the artist will be in attendance.

Mezei is a mult- award winning artist, having been a finalist in the prestigious John Leslie Art Prize, on two occasions, and a finalist most recently in the Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize.

With his revival of Dutch Masters’ techniques, incorporating rare pigments, resins and oils and even grinding his own colours, Mezei embellishes his creative techniques, which ultimately allow for a rendering of nineteenth century romanticism: haunting images of transcendent beauty.

Perhaps more importantly, these luminous, jewel-like paintings present an inspired and new perspective on the impending catastrophe of climate change.

"Tyranny, pillars and the gaze of concrete" commences on 6th April and continues to 24th April 2010.
